The Dogmatic Theology on the Intention of the Minister in the Confection of the Sacraments

On the third of March, 1547, the Council of Trent defined that the minister of the sacraments in the exercise of his office must have at least the intention of doing what the Church does. With the promulgation of this decree, argument about the necessity of intention ceased, but the words used by the Council " intentiofaciendi quod fadt Ecclesia ” would not always be interpreted in the same way.
